Spring (Bulbs) Already

Well here we are at the end of August and I want you to think beyond Christmas. A scary thought but with our spring flowering bulbs arriving shortly it is time to be planning, choosing and planting Crocus, Daffodils, Tulips, prepared Hyacinths as well as other lesser known bulbs

Sarah as ever has selected a fantastic range of bulbs and has picked out a mix of old favourites as well as some new exciting varieties.

Spring tulip bulbs are a wonderful appetiser, whetting your appetite for the colour and splendour to come, spurring you on to keep the momentum and colour levels flowing. Tulips are easy to plant and even if you put them in upside down they do in fact naturally grow the right way around. With the right depth (6 inches of soil above) and planted in swathes in the garden or layered in pots you are sure to have a fantastic show. From the new Apricot Foxx with its sweet apricot colour which flows beautifully into soft yellow. The double ‘xx’ in the name hints at how extra special this tulip really is! Beautiful, warm colouring that mixes well with darker tulips.

Considered Holland’s most beautiful tulip due to its excellent form and colour. Tulip ‘Greenland’ displays a warm/cool combination of rosy-pink petals embraced by emerald “arms,” with a pearl-like sheen inside each flower.

The tulip bulb range also includes the cardinal red flower of ‘Pretty Woman’, ‘White Dream’ with its beautiful ice white cupped blooms set against green foliage and the almost black foliage of ‘Paul Scherer’

Daffodils – which are more properly called narcissi – are the surest sign that the days are lengthening, the versatile daffodil can be used in beds, pots and even in window boxes with the dwarf varieties. With colours ranging from

the vibrant yellow, clean white, oranges to pink tones no garden should be without a clump of these reliable beauties. ‘Thalia’ and ‘Geranium’both have fragrant white multi-headed flower and for the traditionalist ‘St Keverne’ with its golden yellow is an ideal garden variety.
